Crazy Bag People

 

After the past couple of years, we all deserve to have a fun weekend getting crazy and designing the bag of your dreams with the assistance of our beautiful rock star designer, Sherry Serafini.   

 

She will help us in creating personalized bead embroidered bags utilizing cork fabrics, suedes, ribbons, and anything else your heart desires. The ultimate playtime!

​

This workshop is a design-based workshop and does not have a kit and traditional instructions.    You can use items from your stash, or begin collecting items now.

 

You will also have options you can purchase at the event:

​

  • Sherry will have a large trunk show with all her goodies 

  • SocialBeadia will have cork and batik fabrics, along with  a number of artist trunk show items.

Sherry Serafini

​

Unusual objects and shapes become part of a new story as Sherry stitches beads and gemstones, one at a time, to a felt like base.  Most pieces are born spontaneously as the beads and Sherry’s imagination dictate the design.  She seldom works from sketches.  Sherry finds this meditative form of art to be a rich counterpoint to a society full of instant gratification.  Some pieces take a year to complete.  Each is unique.

Sherry was raised in a military family, moving every few years.  She credits that nomadic lifestyle with giving her an adventurous and uninhibited approach to her work.

 

Sherry was voted one of the top 10 instructors in the United States by Bead & Button magazine. She lectures and teaches throughout the U.S. and has won numerous awards for excellence in design, including Saul Bell Outstanding Jewelry Design Award, Bead International 2006, People’s Choice Bead Dreams, Runner Up Best in Show Bead Dreams, Kennedy Best of Nationally.  She has been published and has written articles for several well-known magazines.  Her work has been featured on the covers of trade magazines and catalogs and is the co-author of the Art of Bead Embroidery with artist and dear friend Heidi Kummli and Sensational Bead Embroidery by Sherry Serafini

 

Sherry’s beaded art is known internationally and is owned and worn by Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz,  and singer Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. Her beadwork has been seen at fashion week in Milan by the artists who commission her.

The retreat costs $700 and includes:

  • Full three-day workshop Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

  • No host Meet the Teacher informal gathering on Thursday night

  • Daily complimentary breakfast for hotel guests only.

  • Catered lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

  • Gather in the evenings to visit with old and new friends during open beading time

  • Bead shop featuring artist trunk shows and other special finds.

  • Private trunk show with Sherry

  • Gifts and door prizes

  • The fee for the retreat does not include transportation, hotel costs, or daily breakfast and dinner.

  • The retreat fee does not include workshop kits or supply items.​

Travel by air:

The two closest airports are:

​

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT). a 36-minute drive to the Groton Inn via rental car or private car service.

 

Boston Logan International (BOS) - approximately a 50 - 60 minute drive via rental car or private care service

​

There is no public transportation available from either airport. 

​

BOS will have the most available flights and potentially lower fares, however, it is a large airport in a metropolitan setting.  Transit time from the airport to the Inn will be totally dependent on the time of day you arrive and the current traffic conditions.

​

MHT will have fewer flight choices, but you can often find better fares at this airport.  The airport is smaller than BOS but easy to navigate and closer to the inn.  The traffic is typically lighter than from BOS, however, it will depend on the time of day you arrive.

Attn:  November attendees - The Groton Inn is sold out, so if you haven't made your reservation yet, you can check these other nearby hotels (within a 10 minute drive.  Also call Groton Inn and ask to be placed on the waitlist so that you can stay there if they get a cancelation.  They say they typically get some 1-2 months from the dates you want to stay.

Cancellation Policy

Event fee:  $700 - includes breakfast and catered lunch daily.

Cancellation penalties: July session - Final Payment due 2/28/2023

  • Before 10/31/2022- $125 (half your deposit)

  • 11/1/2022 - 1/31/2023 - $250 (entire deposit)

  • 2/1/2023 or after -  $700 - (entire amount)

Cancellation penalties: November session - Final Payment due 7/31/2023

  • Before 2/28/2023- $125 (half your deposit)

  • 3/1/2023 - 5/31/2023 - $250 (entire deposit)

  • 6/1/2023 or after -  $700 - (entire amount)

Cancellation by customer:

If you have to cancel your attendance, you will be refunded the amount paid less any applicable cancellation penalties as stated on the event webpage and a $50 processing fee.  Fully paid registered spaces are transferable in the event you are unable to attend at the last minute. We will attempt to find a replacement from our waitlist if one exists.  If someone registers for your spot, we will refund your payment less a $50 processing fee. If no one is available on the waitlist, it is your responsibility to find a replacement for your spot in the retreat in order to have your payment refunded.

We encourage you to obtain Cancellation and/or Travel Insurance. SocialBeadia, LLC, Sue Burleigh, or any of our subsidiaries cannot be held responsible for your cancellation for any reason.

Cancellation by the instructor(s):

In the unlikely event, one or more instructor(s) have to cancel, SocialBeadia reserves the right to provide a replacement instructor of their choice or reschedule the event.  Any refund available will be solely at the discretion of SocialBeadia, LLC.

Cancellation by SocialBeadia:

If SocialBeadia has to cancel the retreat for business or personal reasons other than those stated below, your entire payment will be refunded.  If the event is canceled due to acts of God, war on American soil, government regulations, disaster, strikes, civil disorder, curtailment of transportation facilities, or any other situation making it inadvisable, illegal, or impossible to hold the event, no refund will be available.  SocialBeadia strongly recommends you purchase travel/cancellation insurance to cover your costs in case of one of these unforeseeable occurrences.
