Katalin Budainé Nagy,
Specialty - Bead Embroidery
Katalin Budainé Nagy, known as Békata, is a Budapest-based artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a lifelong passion for the arts.
From an early age, she explored a variety of creative outlets, including sewing, drawing, and painting. In her early thirties, she graduated as an interior designer, having studied art history, color theory, drawing, and furniture history. These formative years deeply enriched her artistic perspective and strengthened her design skills.
Approximately 15 years ago, Békata turned her focus to jewelry making. She began with wirework, though it did not fully resonate with her creative vision. She then explored beadweaving, but still felt limited in her ability to fully express herself. It was bead embroidery that ultimately transformed her artistic path. Upon discovering the work of American and Russian bead artists, she recognized that she had found her true creative home.
Since then, Békata has continued to expand her practice, constantly exploring new techniques, materials, and tools. She is particularly drawn to mixed media and, more recently, has developed a passion for polymer clay. The combination of bead embroidery and polymer clay allows her to create truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect her evolving artistic voice.
For the past four years, she has been teaching bead embroidery in Hungary at one of Budapest’s largest bead shops, sharing her expertise and inspiring others to explore their own creativity. Connect with Békata and her artistry on:
