Katalin Budaine' Nagy's Odyssey - 3W Masterclass February 8 & 7, 2027
Odyssey 3W - WAR - WEAVE - WAIT Virtual Zoom Masterclass February 6 & 7, 2027, 11:00 AM-5:00 PM EST
3W: WAR • WEAVE • WAIT
Somewhere between war and waiting, a story is woven…
Inspired by the timeless world of The Odyssey, this immersive two-day Zoom masterclass brings together three words, three coordinating pieces, and one powerful story.
WAR is represented by a dimensional bead-embroidered Greek warrior’s helmet—a symbol of courage, battle, and the long journey home. A clever mechanism allows the finished piece to be worn as either a brooch or pendant.
WEAVE comes to life in a dramatic statement necklace inspired by Penelope and her legendary weaving. Vertical strands of snake chain cross freely hanging curves of ball chain to create a basket-like structure, while a separately embroidered lyre forms the heart of the composition.
WAIT reflects Penelope’s patience, strength, and unwavering hope. Coordinating bead-embroidered earrings complete the collection, repeating its distinctive shapes, colors, textures, and flowing chains.
More than a project-based workshop, this masterclass offers an in-depth exploration of the creative decisions behind successful jewelry design. Students will explore how a story or idea can be transformed into contemporary wearable art through thoughtful material selection, construction, proportion, movement, layering, and composition.
The class will also explore how different materials can share a consistent visual language, how contrasting pieces can be unified into a cohesive collection, and how to recognize when a design needs another detail—or when it is complete.
Using a rich Mediterranean-inspired palette of turquoise, antique gold, bronze, and deep brown, students will develop their skills in advanced bead embroidery, mixed-media construction, dimensional elements, chains, professional finishing, and design problem-solving while creating the complete 3W collection: a necklace, earrings, and a warrior’s helmet brooch or pendant.
